WENDY HASEGAWA

Piano Teacher

Wendy started learning the piano when she was four years old in her native Okinawa, Japan. Since then, music has been an essential part of her life. She studied piano performance at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music in Tokyo. After graduation, she taught the piano and organ to two to three-year-olds at Kawai Music School, as well as musical movement through singing and drama. She also taught elementary school children at Kadena Military Base Okinawa in Japan.

After several years of teaching experience in Japan, she moved to the United States to study music composition at Radford University in Virginia, where she was awarded the Frank H “Buddy” Martin, Jr. Memorial International Scholarship (2001- 2002) and the Kathryn G. Obenshain Award (2 nd place) in the 21 st Bartok- Kabalevsky-Prokofiev International Piano Competition in 2001. She also worked as a piano accompanist for the university students under Associate Professor Caryl W. Conger.

She was admitted to her university exchange programme and came to the UK in 2001 to study at the University of Glasgow, where she completed her music degree (Bachelor of Music, Bmus) in 2004. Since graduating from university, she has taught the piano and music privately, providing her students with a solid musical foundation and coaching them to pass examinations and give public performances. She has also directed instrumental ensembles and choir for her students.

Wendy is passionate about teaching and strongly committed to the success and enjoyment of her students. She firmly believes that music can play an essential role in children’s growth, academically, mentally, and socially, and loves helping them fulfil their potential and contribute to their lives.  She is continuing her professional development with the British Kodaly Academy and also planning to resume her studies with a PGCE course in music education.
